Tithe and Offering moving out of Levitical Giving into Melchizedek's Relational Giving

Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils.
Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils.

A tenth part of the spoils- Spoils in Greek is (a 10th of the top of the pile).

After winning a battle they would make a pile of all the goods. The cheaper things would go on the bottom and the more expensive would pile on top and the "most expensive" would be at the very top of the pile. So when they went to divide the spoil the King and Leaders took of the best off the top.

So Abram gave to Melchizedek 10% of the top of the pile not just 10% of the whole pile. Ten percent of the top would have actually been up to 90% of the whole pile "by value". The most valuable goods. The "BEST"!

The proof of one's maturity in Christ is found in ones giving. But giving does not determine even if someone believes in God at all.

If we are to understand our proper relationship to money, we must first understand what money is.

Money is:
. A pledge of assests
. A means of payment
. A medium of exchange
It is morally neutral.

Money is more than just a metal disks or colored paper. It is a tool that simplifies trade.
Because money has no inherent value, only ascribed value, money is not wealth. It merely symbolizes wealth.
Water is a gift of God. Used properly, it gives life. Out of control, it floods, drowns, and destroys. Same with fire.
So it is with money, it has a great potential to be used for good or evil.
